Sea Trek DivingWhen my wife and I spent our honeymoon in Aruba, we packed a lot of activity into one short week. We wanted to see as much of the island as possible in our time there. We went snorkeling with the Jolly Pirates one day, took a jeep tour of the island another day, and rented a car and went crusing ourselves another day. But I think my favorite activity of all was our Sea Trek diving adventure on DePalm Island. Sea Trek is an underwater activity where you put on a big helmet filled with compressed air and then descend a ladder until you're 30 feet below water. You can walk around on the sea floor while surrounded by marine life and the views are magnificent.
When you begin your Sea Trek adventure they go over basic safety instructions and show you some hand signals you can use to communicate with the divers who are supervising your underwater stroll. For example, if you're having a good time you don't want to give them the "thumbs up" gesture. They'll think you're in trouble and need to be brought to the surface! They'll offer you an optional wetsuit and I strongly suggest you use it. The water temperature is quite cool at those depths and you'll be shivering and uncomfortable if you go down without the wetsuit. I was the last person in my group to descend the ladder to the sea floor. My wife went right before me and she looked so nervous I thought she was going to back out at the last minute. As I slowly made my way down the ladder I was expecting to see my wife trembling with fear and wishing she had passed on the Sea Trek diving activity. But when I turned to see her I was surprised to see the biggest smile you can imagine. And as I looked around I understood why. There were thousands of colorful fish swimming all around us and when the instructors sprayed food in front of our masks we got an unbelievable view of the fish feeding. As we walked around the surface we saw an old two-seat plane that was sunk specifically for Sea Trek visitors to view. They even had a table and chairs set up so we could pose for pictures. Before we knew it the 30 minutes had passed and our underwater adventure was over. But we were able to buy a cd loaded with pictures taken while we were under the sea.
If you plan on spending any time in Aruba you absolutely have to sign up for the Sea Trek diving adventure. Trust me, you won't be sorry.
